Georgetown to Downtown Safety Project breaks ground, expands protected bike & scooter route through SODO [ https://sdotblog.seattle.gov/2024/10/30/georgetown-to-downtown-safety-project-breaks-ground/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]

* Construction is now underway on the Georgetown to Downtown Safety Project [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/bike-program/protected-bike-lanes/georgetown-to-downtown-protected-bike-lane?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] to connect a 3-mile seamless, safer route for people biking and riding scooters in an area with a history of crashes and injuries.
* This project will improve safety for people traveling, working, and living in Georgetown, SODO, Downtown, and nearby neighborhoods.
* This is a busy area for industrial and commercial businesses, residents, and people traveling by freight trucks, buses, cars, bikes, and scooters. The project will help separate bikes and scooters from vehicles while supporting sustainable goods deliveries like e-cargo bikes.
* It will also complete a vital link in a system of north-south trails between central Seattle and the South End, and expand access to light rail and other transit routes for commuters.
* We encourage you to visit our website [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/bike-program/protected-bike-lanes/georgetown-to-downtown-protected-bike-lane?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] and sign up for email updates [ https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/WASEATTLE/subscriber/topics?qsp=WASEATTLE_8 ] to stay informed during construction.
* This project is one in a series of bike and safety projects in South Seattle funded by the Levy to Move Seattle [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/about-us/funding/levy-to-move-seattle/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].

SDOT crews tackle overgrown vegetation across Seattle [ https://sdotblog.seattle.gov/2024/10/15/sdot-crews-tackle-overgrown-vegetation-across-seattle/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]

* The wet spring and mild summer made for excellent growing conditions for Seattle’s greenery and trees. This is great for the health of our green spaces and street trees, but it also creates challenges to keep this vegetation from interfering with our streets, signs, signals, sidewalks, trails, and bike lanes.
* This month, we geared up and made an extra push to address overgrown vegetation on major streets and areas throughout the city.
* Thanks in part to Levy to Move Seattle dollars, our SDOT Urban Forestry crews maintain formally planted areas on major arterial streets and other public spaces around a variety of transportation infrastructure, such as a bridge or a public stairway.
* This month, our landscape crews partnered with our right-of-way maintenance, tree maintenance, paving, signs & markings, and Unified Care Team crews to perform an emphasis on vegetation management and clearing.

Construction Begins on RapidRide J Line Project from University District to Downtown Seattle [ https://sdotblog.seattle.gov/2024/10/08/rapidride-j-line-project-construction-begins/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]

* In October, Mayor Bruce Harrell joined King County Executive Dow Constantine and local leaders at a groundbreaking ceremony in the U District to celebrate the milestone.
* The project will provide major transit and infrastructure upgrades in Seattle’s University District, Eastlake, South Lake Union, Belltown, and Downtown neighborhoods.
* It will help transform the streets in these neighborhoods to be smoother, more convenient, and easier to navigate and enjoy.
* We encourage the public to visit our website [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/transit-program/transit-plus-multimodal-corridor-program/rapidride-roosevelt?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] for project details and sign up for regular email updates [ https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/WASEATTLE/subscriber/topics?qsp=WASEATTLE_8 ] to stay informed about construction activities.
