As we approach the 4th of July, this is a reminder that it is *illegal to use and discharge fireworks* within the City of Medina. The Medina Police Department would like to provide you with the following facts and reminders from the Office of the State Fire Marshall [ https://www.wsp.wa.gov/fireworks/ ]:

*_Facts:_*

*  Holding fireworks is the leading cause of fireworks injuries.
*  Sparklers burn at over 1,200 degrees and are one of the leading fireworks involved injuries.
*  M-80’s or larger can cause amputation of fingers or even a hand.  They are explosive devices and are illegal to possess anywhere in the nation.
*  Bottle rockets are the leading cause of fireworks related fires.  Bottle rockets and firecrackers are illegal to possess or discharge in Washington State.

*_Safety Tips:_*

*  Use legal fireworks, available at licensed outlets, only where allowable to discharge by law.
*  Store fireworks out of children’s reach, and keep pets safely indoors.
*  Only adults should light fireworks, and water and a fire extinguisher should be kept nearby.
