LĪHUʻE – Detective Bobby Thompson was honored at the Kaua‘i Police Commission meeting on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024 for his outstanding investigative work and dedication to public safety.

Detective Bobby Thompson was recognized for his efforts in solving several complex felony cases, which led to the arrest of multiple dangerous offenders and significantly contributed to the safety of Kaua‘i’s community. His meticulous investigative skills, coordination with patrol officers, and commitment to justice have had a profound impact on crime prevention across the island. Detective Thompson has worked on a variety of cases, including burglaries, firearms offenses, drug-related crimes, and fraudulent activities. His efforts have led to the capture of suspects involved in vehicle break-ins, thefts, and illegal substances, while also recovering stolen property and making significant connections between incidents to uncover broader criminal patterns.

“Detective Thompson has demonstrated incredible dedication and professionalism in each of these cases,” stated Deputy Chief Mark Ozaki. “His unwavering commitment to justice and his ability to connect cases and gather evidence have made a significant difference in ensuring public safety on Kaua‘i. His actions set an example of excellence within our department and our community.”

KPD also extends its thanks to the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for their collaboration in these cases, ensuring the offenders were held accountable and justice was served.

Recruitment for the force is ongoing. The salary for a police officer ranges from approximately $72,000 to over $118,000 and includes a robust benefits package. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and a minimum age of 20 years. Applicants should not have any misdemeanor, felony, or domestic violence convictions.
