It’s hard to leave your favorite market without bags full of your favorites. Before you buy, please consider: Buying only what your family can realistically eat before it goes bad. Properly storing what you buy so it stays fresh longer. Freezing or canning anything your family fails to eat and using it later. Placing all inedible fruit parts in your compost pile or green organics cart. Pits, peels, rinds, seeds and stems all belong in your green cart. Please remove any produce stickers and place those in the grey garbage cart. Remember that the fruit, other food scraps, and food-soiled paper you place in your green organics cart are processed into renewable fuel and compost. These products are beneficial to our environment. Interested in making compost at home? Visit smcsustainability.org/composting for tips. Questions regarding what else belongs in your green cart?
