U.S. Representative Kathy Castor, Mayor Jane Castor, Tampa City Council, City staff, and community members gathered to celebrate receiving a $24.7M federal grant to help fund major stormwater and mobility improvements in the Palmetto Beach neighborhood. These improvements include reconstruction of the seawall, new seawall trails, resurfacing & narrowing travel lanes, formalizing on-street parking, upgrading sidewalks, adding pedestrian crossings, planting trees, and more.

Boom by the Bay is Back!

Boom by the Bay (https://www.tampa.gov/boom) at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park is Tampa’s premier Independence Day celebration on July 4 - featuring family-friendly activities, live entertainment, an Apple Pie Throwdown, and a fireworks display. The event is free and open to the public to enjoy. Fireworks will begin at dusk.

NOTE: City of Tampa offices will be closed on July 4, in observance of Independence Day. There will be no residential solid waste pickup that day.

Watering Restrictions

The Southwest Florida Water Management District has extended the regional one-day-per-week watering restrictions (https://www.swfwmd.state.fl.us/about/newsroom/news/district-extends-watering-restrictions-again-hillsborough-pasco-and-pinellas) again for our area - now in effect until September 1.

Job of the Week

The Logistics & Asset Management Dept is hiring a Fleet Marine Mechanic (https://www.jobapscloud.com/Tampa/sup/bulpreview.asp?b=&R1=240621&R2=003725&R3=003) to perform specialized maintenance and/or repairs on marine equipment that are gasoline and diesel powered. Applicants should have graduated from an accredited high school or vocational school and one (1) year of experience with outboard engine experience, general boat maintenance, boat trailer maintenance, inboard marine engine maintenance repair and marine electrical system maintenance.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Heather Bonds, a Historic Preservation Specialist with Development and Growth Management Division. She has worked for the City of Tampa for almost three years. She most enjoys meeting homeowners at their historic properties and learning what their home means to them. “Historic home owners have a lot of pride in their homes and I always walk away learning something new either about a unique artifact in their home and how they tackled a project. Speaking to people with a lot of passion always inspires me,” she said.

What’s something unique about your job that others wouldn’t know? Historic Preservation is unique because we balance the past, present, future. We help people adapt historic properties for today's modern needs, while preserving them for the future generations to understand how past generations lived.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen on the job? One of my current projects is photo surveying Ybor City. I've gotten used to the roosters and chickens running around, but was recently surprised to come across a very large wild turkey gobbling at me from a roof!

What’s your favorite shop in Tampa? My favorite shop is the AR Workshop. They guide you in making all sorts of crafts and home goods. I can point to things in my house and say "I made that!"

What is your dream vacation? London - the architecture spans over a 1,000 years. I'd love to take all of the architectural, pub and ghosts tours!

What are you binging on Netflix right now? I'm reading and watching the Outlander series. I'm also watching Top Chef, Bridgerton, and House of Dragon.
