All Kaua‘i north shore beaches closed due to High Surf Warning and dangerous ocean conditions

Ocean Safety officials are closing all beaches in the North District of Kaua‘i until further notice due to very dangerous ocean conditions. The public should not enter the water from Ka‘aka‘aniu Beach (also known as Larsen’s Beach, in Moloa‘a) to Kē‘ē Beach, and along Na Pali Coast.

A High Surf Warning remains in effect for north- and west-facing shores through 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, according to the National Weather Service. Ocean Safety Bureau Officials are currently reporting waves 30 to 40 feet on the north shore.

Entering the water in these areas during the High Surf Warning is very hazardous and could cause serious injury or death. Beachgoers are also advised to use extreme caution, as large breaking waves are very dangerous for those standing along the shoreline.

The warning may be extended or modified as conditions develop. For updated information on ocean and weather alerts, visit the NWS website, www.weather.gov/hfo [ https://www.weather.gov/hfo/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].

For up-to-date information about Kaua‘i ocean conditions and ocean safety, please speak to a county lifeguard at any lifeguard station, visit www.safebeachday.com [ https://safebeachday.com/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ], or call the Ocean Safety Bureau at 808-241-4984.
