*Firefighters conduct two air rescues on **Monday*

Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters conducted two air rescues on Monday, Oct. 14.

The first incident involved a Hawai‘i Island visitor at the Kalalau Trail.

According to a preliminary report, KFD personnel received a report shortly before 11:50 a.m. of a female who needed rescue due to exhaustion.

Personnel with the Hanalei Fire Station, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and American Medical Response responded to the incident.

Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 arrived on the scene at noon and discovered the hiker at the Kalalau Beach landing zone. The visitor was extracted and transported to Princeville Airport. AMR medics treated the individual before transporting her to Wilcox Medical Center.

Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 1:40 p.m.

The second rescue involved an injured 46-year-old visitor from New York at the Hanakāpīʻai Trail. 

KFD personnel received a report shortly before 2:30 p.m.

Personnel with the Hanalei Fire Station, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and American Medical Response responded to the incident.

Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 arrived on the scene at approximately 2:40 p.m. and discovered the hiker with an apparent leg injury from a fall. The female hiker was short-hauled via Air Rescue Vest and transported to Princeville Airport. AMR personnel continued treatment on the hiker before transporting her to Wilcox Medical Center.

The scene was cleared at approximately 4 p.m.
