Department of Public Works Wins Two APWA Awards

In May 2024, the local chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) presented awards to the Department of Public Works (DPW) for two projects: the Montague Park Rehabilitation Project and the Uncontrolled Crosswalks Improvement Project.

The Montague Park Rehabilitation Project elevates the community's recreational experience by expanding the existing playground and enhancing the park facility. The upgraded facility is equipped with a new prep kitchen and an accessible restroom, serving as a hub for future community events. Additionally, the park boasts a new covered picnic area with barbecues, exercise area, and half-court basketball court. The play area has been expanded to incorporate elements tailored to children ages 2-12.

The Uncontrolled Crosswalks Improvement Project focuses on improving the safety, mobility and accessibility at certain crosswalks, such as Benton Street and Homestead Road. New installations include pedestrian hybrid beacons, curb-extensions, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) curb ramps, and lighting improvements to create marked pathways and designated crossing points along high-traffic corridors and near school zones.

DPW was honored to receive these awards as they highlight the high-quality projects staff delivers to enhance amenities in the Santa Clara community.
