*Free car seat check in recognition of National Child Passenger Safety Week *

LĪHUʻE –The week of Sep. 15 through 21 was National Child Passenger Safety Week, a campaign focused on educating parents and caregivers about the importance of proper child passenger safety.

In recognition of this important initiative, the Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) is partnering with the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation, Kaua'i Planning & Action Alliance, and Hawai‘i Pacific Health to hold a free car seat check event.

The car seat check will be held at Walmart in Līhu‘e on Saturday, Sep. 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The event is free, and parents and guardians are encouraged to bring their vehicles and child safety seats for assessment. No appointment is necessary.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be available to provide free car seat inspections, demonstrate proper installation techniques, and offer essential safety tips to ensure children are securely fastened while traveling.

At the last event, 27 car seat inspections were conducted, setting a new record for the highest number of checks ever completed at a Kaua‘i car seat check event.

Ensuring that children are in the appropriate car seat for their age and size, and that the seat is installed correctly, is essential for their safety. KPD would like to thank the public for prioritizing child passenger safety and contributing to safer roadways.

For further details about the event, please contact Lisa Dau at lisa.dau@kapiolani.org or Lieutenant Jason Overmyer at 808-241-1612.
