Get OnBase - City Council Agenda Portal Training

The City of Tampa has recently published a new public-facing agenda portal. (https://www.tampa.gov/events/get-onbase-city-council-agenda-portal-training/135411) The “City of Tampa Agenda Online” portal enables the public to view meetings and agendas for City Council meetings once they are published. Register (https://events.gcc.teams.microsoft.com/event/5623a652-60d0-44df-acc7-decba46bddf6@8d9d0373-5c91-45b4-905b-12fe918cb628) for a live virtual training on January 31 at 6 pm to learn how to use the site & share their feedback. Registered participants will receive a link to join this Microsoft Teams webinar.

5th Annual Keeping Our Kids Safe Workshop

Safety is key! Individuals with disabilities & their families/caretakers are invited to our 5th Annual Keeping Our Kids Safe (https://www.tampa.gov/events/5th-annual-keeping-our-kids-safe/135471) workshop on February 2 at 6 pm - to learn about how to keep children with disabilities safe.

Heart of Hanna Art Talks & Workshops

Artist Rafael Blanco is currently painting a mural at the McKay Bay Transfer Station that illustrates our Solid Waste Department's services and our diverse workforce. On February 2 at 4:30 pm, join a Heart of Hanna Art Talk (https://www.tampa.gov/events/heart-hanna-artist-talk/135536) where Blanco will talk about his life as an artist, and specifically about how his project in Tampa illustrates the diverse workforce and various services provided by the Solid Waste Department. Originally from Alicante, Spain -- Blanco trained as a classical studio painter and has created large-scale murals across the country.

On February 5 from 10am – 11am, create unique Valentine’s Day cards (https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=cwOdjZFctEWQWxL-kYy2KPXOnKEgtHNJiMe20_CF7K1UNElTS1dJWlhIRVdKVVZQRURBUlBTTDVBUS4u) with the help of a local artist, Michelle Sawyer. She is a visual artist from Tampa who has worked as a painter, muralist, curator and educator. Her large-scale works, which range from commercial to historical to community- centered projects. Black Love Film Series

The Black Love Film Series (https://tampatheatre.org/movie-categories/black-love/) is back! The series features five films, chosen in collaboration with the City of Tampa’s Community Engagement & Partnerships Department, that explore stories centered around the theme of “Faith, Food & Family” as told by Black filmmakers and diverse casts. Films will be screened on Sundays at 3 pm until February 25. On February 18 at 3 pm, the screening of “This Is It! The Miracle of BBQ” will be free and open to the public.

3Rs Art & Poetry Contest

Submissions are now open for the annual 3R's Art & Poetry contest (https://www.tampa.gov/3Rs) . Tampa children & teens are invited to submit art and poetry that promotes environmental stewardship until February 2. Winning artwork will be displayed on our solid waste trucks for one year.

Gasparilla Music Festival

The Gasparilla Music Foundation is a Florida 501(c)-3 non-profit corporation that organizes an annual music festival in Tampa and supports music education through its Recycled Tunes program. The 2024 Gasparilla Music Festival (https://gasparillamusic.com/) takes place in Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park on February 16 - 18, featuring musical acts from a wide variety of genres on several stages and cuisine from the region’s top restaurants.

Matilda Martinez Garcia Leadership Award

The Matilda Martinez Garcia Leadership Award (https://www.tampa.gov/matilda-martinez-garcia-leadership-award-0) recognizes a person or organization that has made extraordinary contributions to the betterment of Hillsborough County’s Hispanic community. The recipient of the award will be announced and recognized by the Mayor’s Hispanic Advisory Council at the 25th Annual Latinos Unidos Luncheon (https://www.tampa.gov/hispanic-advisory-council/latinos-unidos-luncheon) on May 8 at The Hilton Hotel in Downtown Tampa. Jillian Howard
Meet Jillian Howard, a Project Coordinator in the Contract Administration Department. She has worked for the City of Tampa for over 15 years. She enjoys the project diversity within her position. No two projects are the same, so it provides an opportunity for continuous learning.

What do you like to do in your free time? I am not great at it, but I enjoy golfing during my free time. If not golfing, then I am just spending time together at home with my twin sister and dogs.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Tampa? I would have to say my favorite restaurant in Tampa is Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant on Davis Island.

What is your dream vacation? My dream vacation is a month in the Maldives. I can just image what it would be like to awaken to crystal blue waters in a beach bungalow in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

What reality show would you want to be on? The reality show I would like to be on is the Amazing Race. The opportunity to travel and compete is very appealing.
