** March 14, 2025
------------------------------------------------------------
Our little corner may be “young” compared to other parts of the world, but we definitely have our own history that we’re proud of, whether it’s how Orlando became a city in 1875 or granting women the right to vote (https://www.facebook.com/cityoforlando/posts/pfbid0FrydUZnPfJA2DMxTkGCFcNVwc18LQ9BZCApdPmf5RHqsYrBSLjPoL5PK1zW8Vdswl?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=34a6281323-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-34a6281323-80648119&mc_cid=34a6281323&mc_eid=UNIQID) in Orlando in April 1919, one year sooner than voting was made legal for woman nationally.
We are proud of our unique, diverse and inclusive history.

** Mother Earth would be proud
------------------------------------------------------------
Keep Orlando Beautiful continues to make strides in keeping our city clean and educating our community on conservation.
Recently, KOB partnered with the Volo Foundation to paint an environmental mural (https://www.facebook.com/keeporlandobeautiful/posts/pfbid02C8jt44WU4Bos9Fq8qFzsjYoxHRiv9QXeZbjeC9aYtdiHaSRTnkkCy9N2RpeFu1oEl?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=34a6281323-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-34a6281323-80648119&mc_cid=34a6281323&mc_eid=UNIQID) at the Academic Center for Excellence, ACE School. Allison Dayka, the artist, designed and painted the mural by incorporating student designs, the school mascot and put an emphasis on environmental themes.
Trash 2 Trends
The Volo Foundation is also a sponsor for KOB’s Trash 2 Trends fashion fundraiser, happening on May 7. Designers create looks from items headed to the landfill, these designs are featured on a runway, and the money raised by this event goes right back into the Orlando community to increase recycling, prevent litter and beautify our neighborhoods, green spaces and business districts. We want a bench!
KOB has a goal of collecting 1,000 pounds of soft plastics – grocery bags, bubble wrap, bread bags, cereal bags, etc. - to celebrate our 150th anniversary!
Get rid of those annoying bags and help us make a bench that is completely made out of these recycled plastics. Once we reach 1,000 pounds, we will receive a bench made from recycled plastic that will be commemorated on July 31 for Orlando's 150th Anniversary.
So, grab your soft plastic stash and head over to our drop off. ** Faith and healing can come in different forms
------------------------------------------------------------
In 1975, the U.S. had approximately 4.6% women-owned businesses. Within that small group of pioneer women who were making business moves, was Beverly Ford, who opened Spiral Circle Bookstore just outside of downtown Orlando.
Beverly owned and operated Spiral Circle Bookstore for 40 of the store’s 50-year history before passing in 2016. In that time, Spiral Circle gained many faithful customers, including Julie Wilder, co-owner of the then neighboring Dandelion Café. Julie would spend her time away from the café in the bookstore enjoying Beverly’s curated collections of spiritual books and the mystical atmosphere. After Beverly’s passing, Julie, like many other patrons, didn’t want to see the safe and spiritual sanctuary fall to the wayside. As an advocate of local business growth, seasoned business owner, and a lover all things art, culture and spirituality, Julie’s decision to take over Spiral Circle Bookstore in 2019 was a no-brainer.
Since becoming owner of Spiral Circle Bookstore, Julie’s mission has been to preserve Beverly’s legacy while expanding available products to support the interests of the community. To complement a diverse selection of self-development and spiritual books, Julie and her staff added a small apothecary, handmade jewelry, crystals, tarot cards and offer a variety of spiritual readings and meditation. But most importantly, Julie and her staff place emphasis on being a place where every person feels safe, celebrated and loved.
To visit Spiral Circle Bookstore, head to 750 North Thornton Avenue or visit spiralcircle.com (https://www.spiralcircle.com/?utm_source=City+News&utm_campaign=34a6281323-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_07_03_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c482f52094-34a6281323-80648119&mc_cid=34a6281323&mc_eid=UNIQID) .
