Wilburton Comprehensive Plan Amendment Goes to Council

Progress on the Wilburton Vision Implementation

On May 1, the Planning Commission recommended the adoption of a Comprehensive Plan Amendment (CPA) to support changes in the Wilburton Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) area. This recommendation includes updates to policies and maps in the Wilburton and BelRed Subarea Plans that will help further development of Bellevue’s next urban, trail-, and transit-oriented mixed use neighborhood. Some of the big changes include providing more housing and employment opportunity around the light rail station, developing convenient and safe connections to the future Eastrail, and implementing bold sustainability strategies around green buildings, energy, and natural resources.

The Planning Commission will share their recommendation at an upcoming City Council meeting on June 25. This kicks off the final review of the CPA, where councilmembers will provide direction. Community members are encouraged to provide feedback during the public comment period. Information on how to participate can be found when the agenda is published at https://bellevue.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx [ https://vmm0dj30.r.us-west-2.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fbellevue.legistar.com%2FCalendar.aspx%3Futm_medium=email%26utm_source=govdelivery/1/0101018f2c68cf9c-a96a2691-f193-4d51-94a3-407931ac78d2-000000/WhrEthnsk6_ChvQIc_6Z-ZtojUY=372?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] in the coming weeks.

Over the summer, the City will also be evaluating proposed zoning, development standards, and design guidelines for the Wilburton TOD area as part of the Land Use Code Amendment (LUCA) process. A public review draft of the LUCA is now available on the city website [ https://bellevuewa.gov/city-government/departments/community-development/planning-initiatives/wilburton?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] and on Engaging Bellevue [ https://www.engagingbellevue.com/wilburton-vision-implementation/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]. Further work on the LUCA will be discussed with the Planning Commission over the Summer/Fall.
