King County District Court Profile 

KCDC is the largest and most technologically advanced Court of Limited Jurisdiction in the State of Washington. It currently processes approximately 200,000 matters per year with 25 elected judges and roughly 260 employees at 8 courthouse locations. The Court is a leader in many areas involving public safety and access to justice, including the use of problem-solving courts, jail-alternative programs, technology- and judge-managed probation services. Twelve cities contract with King County for court services provided by KCDC.  

 

 

Position Summary 

The Probation Mental Health Specialist provides varied probation services to offenders sentenced in Mental Health Court.  Work involves providing assessments for the courts and probation services for misdemeanant offenders determined to have significant mental health issues.  Representative responsibilities include: interviewing, evaluation, and report writing; making recommendations as to placement and treatment programs, reviewing and analyzing individual client needs and assessing how community based programs can accommodate those needs.  Work also involves meeting with probationers regarding progress, counseling, writing court correspondence, making court appearances and interacting with treatment agencies.

The Probation Mental Health Specialist is expected to become acquainted with agency, County, State, and court policies, procedures and regulations; to adhere to General Administrative Order 24-06, "Judge-Supervised Probation: King County District Court Monitoring Standards" to apply basic diagnostic and counseling principles; to efficiently utilize community resources; and to utilize available resources in determining the best alternative for a given situation or case.  The Probation Mental Health Specialist is supervised by, and reports directly to, a King County District Court Probation Services Manager.   body { font-size: 1em; font-family: Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; font-weight: normal; font-style: normal; color: #333333; }
