Mountain View Reaffirms Commitment as "Community for All"

Downtown Patrol

The City of Mountain View is reaffirming its commitment as a “Community for All” in response to concerns being raised by community members over potential changes in immigration enforcement by federal law enforcement officials in the coming year.

The Mountain View Police Department does not ask about immigration status of anyone we contact including crime witnesses or other individuals who contact MVPD for help. MVPD does not participate in federal civil immigration sweeps and will not detain or arrest anyone on the basis of their citizenship or status under civil immigration laws. Immigration status is never a factor in MVPD’s interaction with the community.

For more information, read the news release [ https://www.mountainview.gov/Home/Components/News/News/974/284 ] in which Police Chief Michael Canfield states the MVPD priority to support safety for everyone in Mountain View and to provide full access to the police department without fear of immigration enforcement or different treatment.

*Holiday Trash Collection Schedule*

Trash Carts

Trash collection occurs on all holidays except Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If your trash collection day falls on or after one of these holidays, your service will be impacted. Visit the Collection Calendar [ https://www.mountainview.gov/our-city/departments/public-works/recycling-zero-waste/trash-recycling-services/collection-schedules-holidays ] for more details.

Holiday trees will be collected curbside for no charge on your compost day from Dec. 26 until Jan. 17. Cut large trees into pieces no longer than five feet. Put smaller trees into your compost cart and cut them if needed to fit with the lid closed. Remove all decorations, tinsel and metal or plastic stands.

Miramonte Improvements Update

Paving Road

Over the past year, two utility projects have been completed to address aging water and sewer main lines on Miramonte Avenue. One of the projects was a City of Mountain View project and the other one was a Cal Water project.

Due to the need for these projects to be completed first to avoid damaging the new roadway pavement planned between Cuesta Avenue and Castro Street, the paving project’s scope was expanded to provide enhanced active transportation improvements for this corridor.

Improvements will include repaving Miramonte between Cuesta and Castro as well as installation of:

• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant curb ramps

• High visibility crosswalks

• A pedestrian-activated, overhead Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacon at the Hans Avenue intersection

• Curb extensions (bulb-outs) and storm drain modifications at Hans Avenue

• Road diet lane reconfiguration from a four-lane to a three-lane road that includes a two-way center left-turn lane

• Class II green bike lanes (on-road bicycle lanes that are marked with green paint to make them more visible to drivers and bicyclists) on both sides of the street

• Class IV bikeway (two-way separated bike lanes) on the east side of Miramonte Avenue, between Hans Avenue and Castro Street, in place of a single Class II bike lane

• Landscaped median adjacent to the Class IV bikeway, with irrigation and low water use shrubs

Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2025 and be completed in Fall 2025.

Shop Local for Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday

In Mountain View, 90% of businesses are “small businesses” (with 35 employees or less). In local economies, SMALL businesses make a BIG impact. When you shop small and local, two-thirds of your money recirculates in the local economy. That’s because small businesses pay wages to local workers, contribute to local and state taxes, and utilize local service providers. Small businesses also give back to the community - think little league sponsorships and support for local events!

As you plan your holiday shopping, be sure to come out and support the numerous local businesses located downtown and throughout the city for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30.
