生物園、都市農業公園、桑袋ビオトープ公園が月に一度発行するニュースレターを読んでいると、意外に知らなかったことが多いと気付かされます。
都市農業公園のニュースレター5月号で「タッジーマッジーを知っていますか？」のコラムを見つけましたが、この呪文のような単語は初めて耳にする言葉でした。
タッジーマッジーとは、芳香のあるハーブと花で作った小さな花束のことをいうそうです。
ラベンダーやミント、セージなどは防虫や殺菌効果があることから、疫病が流行した中世ヨーロッパでは外出時に身につけることで、厄除けや魔除けにしたといいます。
その後19世紀頃に花言葉が流行し始めると、花言葉を組み合わせた花束を作り、隠れたメッセージを紐解くという意味合いを持つようになった、とコラムで読み、ふむふむと。
都市農業公園では、「薬草魔女 フラクサ」こと古澤正美先生によるハーブの講習会が人気です。
私が伺った時はハリーポッターのマクゴナガル先生のような装いでまさに「魔女」の出で立ちでした。
5月12日（日曜日）には園内のハーブ園で摘んだハーブや季節の花を使った「母の日花束作り」も開催されます（費用500円、当日募集で定員あり）。
田植え体験も含め、年齢に関係なく楽しめる企画が詰まった都市農業公園へぜひお出かけください。
