*Multiple agencies search for missing Līhu‘e man in waters off Nukoli‘i Beach in Wailua*

WAILUA – Multiple agencies are searching for a missing 50-year-old Līhu‘e man by land, sea, and air in waters off Nukoli‘i Beach in Wailua.

The missing person’s identity has not been released.

Personnel with the Kaua‘i Police Department, Kaua‘i Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), and the on-duty KFD Battalion Chief are responding to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a missing snorkeler at Nukoli‘i Beach on Saturday, Aug. 24, at approximately 6:40 p.m. The man was about 100 yards offshore when he was separated from his party and went missing.

Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 was deployed and searched for the missing snorkeler through dusk. Fire personnel continued their search and cleared the scene late Saturday before midnight. USCG continued their search until approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.

First responders continued their search for the missing man on Sunday morning along the coastline and in waters off Nukoli‘i Beach. Due to weather conditions, Air 1 was not deployed on Sunday.

Volunteers with Life’s Bridges, a grief counseling service, were contacted to offer support to the missing person's family.

Updates on the search will be given as information becomes available.

Anyone with information about the missing man is encouraged call KPD Dispatch at 808-241-1711, leave an anonymous tip by calling Crime Stoppers Kaua‘i at 808-246-8300, submitting a tip at cskauai.org, or through the Crime Stoppers Kaua‘i P3 Tips Mobile App.
