*Area in Dallas to be sprayed for West Nile Virus* 

 

*Dallas* – Mosquito samples in Dallas have tested positive for the West Nile Virus. Weather permitting, the area(s) described below are scheduled for mosquito control spraying between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. each night from Wednesday, July 19 to Thursday, July 20.  

 

*Control Area:* The area to be sprayed is within an area generally bounded by: 2300 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard (75215): *S.  Malcolm X Boulevard* on the north, *Coombs Street *on the west, *Dathe Street* on the east, and *Cleveland Street* on the south. 

 

The area to be sprayed is within an area generally bounded by: 2700 block of Lawrence Street (75215): *Roberts Avenue* on the north, *Eugene Street *on the west, *Vannerson Drive* on the east, and *CF Hawn Freeway* on the south. 

 

The area to be sprayed is within an area generally bounded by: 4000 block of Herschel Avenue (75219): *Hawthorne Avenue* on the north, *N. Hall Street *on the west, *Turtle Creek Boulevard* on the east, and *Reagan Street* on the south. 

 

The area to be sprayed is within an area generally bounded by: 6100 block of Lazy River Drive (75241): *Wagon Wheels Trail* on the north, *Singing Hills Drive *on the west, *S. Lancaster Road* on the east, and *Cover Drive* on the south. 

 

The area to be sprayed is within an area generally bounded by: 6100 block of Prospect Avenue (75214): *Llano Avenue* on the north, *Matilda Street *on the west, *Abrams Road *on the east, and *Glendale Street* on the south. 

 

The area to be sprayed is within an area generally bounded by: 6200 block of Desco Drive (75225): *Stichter Avenue* on the north, *Douglas Avenue *on the west, *Thackery Street* on the east, and *Bandera Avenue* on the south. 

 

The area to be sprayed is within an area generally bounded by: 9900 block of Silvertree Drive (75243): *Morgan Meadow Lane* on the north, *Pleasant Valley Drive *on the west, *White Elm Road* on the east, and *Forest Lane* on the south. 

 

The area to be sprayed is within an area generally bounded by: 12300 block of Dandridge Drive (75243): *LBJ Freeway* on the north, *Willowdell Drive *on the west, *Vantage Point Drive* on the east, and *Forest Lane* on the south. 

 

While the Environmental Protection Agency approves the insecticide for treatment, residents in the above areas should avoid contact with the spray by staying indoors. People inside a vehicle while trucks are actively spraying should remain in their vehicles with the windows up and the air conditioner on until the trucks pass through, and the spray is no longer visible. People who are out during the scheduled spraying time should be alert for trucks and should not follow them. Residents who come into contact with the spray are advised to wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water. The spray breaks down quickly in the presence of sunlight and has no residual effect. 

 

*Protection against mosquito bites* 

Dallas residents are urged to take precautions against mosquito bites by reducing outdoor activity during the evening and nighttime hours. Residents who are outside during these times should cover their arms and legs and use a mosquito repellent.    

 

*Prevent mosquito breeding* 

Residents should eliminate standing water to prevent mosquito breeding and the spread of West Nile Virus. Breeding places for mosquitoes include swimming pools that are not kept clean, stagnant ponds, pet watering dishes, birdbaths, potted plants, old tires, empty containers, toys and clogged rain gutters and French drains. Eliminate standing water promptly, as mosquitoes can grow from egg to adult in as little as seven days. Dallas residents may receive free mosquito dunks at Code Compliance Services District Offices while supplies last.
