The Heartwood Apartments Grand Opening

The Heartwood Apts Open 2

On Wednesday, Oct. 30, the City of Mountain View celebrated the grand opening of the community's newest affordable housing development.

The Heartwood Apartments [ https://www.jamboreehousing.com/blogs/affordable-housing-resident/the-heartwood-apartments-affordable-housing-residents-in-mountain-view ]has 48 units for households experiencing or at risk of homelessness, including 13 units dedicated for Transitional Aged Youth, typically aged 18 to 25 who are exiting or at risk of homelessness.

Formerly known as the Crestview Hotel, The Heartwood Apartments is the first hotel converted to an affordable housing community in Mountain View.

The driving factor of the project’s success is a partnership between the City, County of Santa Clara and Jamboree Housing Corporation.

For more information, read the news release [ https://www.mountainview.gov/Home/Components/News/News/966/284 ].

Teacher/Staff Affordable Housing Ribbon Cutting

Whisman at The Sevens Balcony

Earlier this week, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to officially mark the completion of constructing 144 units of teacher and staff affordable housing as part of a larger housing development at 777 Middlefield Road.

Referred to as Mountain View Whisman at The Sevens these units include 123 studio, 1- and 2-bedroom apartments at below-market rate rents for Mountain View Whisman School District teachers and staff and 20 units designated for City of Mountain View staff.

Due to skyrocketing housing costs in the Bay Area, the Mountain View Whisman School District and the City of Mountain View have championed this proactive approach to build affordable housing that will attract and retain teachers and staff who can live in the communities they serve.

The development was financed by Mountain View Whisman's Measure T bond, which was passed in 2020, and supported with funding provided by the City.

Community Development Lobby Remodel

CDD Lobby Remodel Banner

Remodeling work is underway for the Community Development Department reception and public counter area, which is located on the first floor of Mountain View City Hall. The project began this week and is anticipated to take about 12 weeks to complete.

While construction is underway, the public can continue to receive in-person assistance at City Hall for planning and building permit and inspection services. This assistance will be available at the Public Works Department reception and public counter area, also located on City Hall’s first floor, during business hours until the remodeling work is complete.

The reception area remodel project will provide a new meeting space in the reception area where Community Development Department staff can meet with customers privately to discuss their projects. The project will also provide dedicated space for expanded services by the City, such as the re-launch of one-stop permit review for certain small residential and commercial projects in 2025. Re-launch of the one-stop permit review process is the latest action the City is taking to improve the resident and business permitting experience, following an expansion of online permitting in summer 2024.

The project will also install security doors between the public reception and staff work areas.

For more information, read the news release [ https://www.mountainview.gov/Home/Components/News/News/962/284 ].
