šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street signs unveiled at a community celebration

xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band) and the City of Vancouver proudly u. Each street corner will display two street signs: the legal name šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street and its English translation Musqueamview. This is the first street sign in Vancouver featuring Musqueam’s traditional language, hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓.

šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street’s legal hən̓q̓əmin̓əm name will be used in official City records, maps, and some government databases. The English translation will be used where the legal name cannot currently be displayed. Trutch Street and Musqueamview Street can be also referenced when calling emergency services.

City reaffirms commitment to UNDRIP Action Plan and ongoing Reconciliation with local Nations

On June 3, the City of Vancouver .

This historic plan was created together with xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation). The Action Plan was first approved in June 2024 and outlines the City’s responsibilities in upholding the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The five-year plan includes 88 deliverables across 18 Action Groups. These focus areas range from housing and cultural visibility to environmental justice, redress, and institutional change—all with the goal of embedding Indigenous rights and leadership into the City’s policies and services.

City of Vancouver and Carnegie Community Centre host National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration on June 21

On Saturday, June 21, the City of Vancouver and Carnegie Community Centre invited the public to gather on the 400-block of Main and Hastings Street for a . Festivities began at noon, honouring the diverse cultures, living traditions and enduring contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples.

This year’s National Indigenous Peoples Day artwork is visually anchored by Zac George of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, featured on flags and street pole banners throughout the block. The design is also showcased on commemorative 2025 NIPD t-shirts worn by volunteers and community members, serving as a visual tribute to local Indigenous identity and artistry.

The City of Vancouver extends deep gratitude to the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, on whose unceded territories this event took place.

Zac George Sko-Kay-Lem house post honoring Tsleil-Waututh Chief Dan George now stands tall in downtown Vancouver

On National Indigenous Peoples Day, Mayor Ken Sim along with City of Vancouver Councillors and staff, joined artist Zac George Sko-Kay-Lem, his family and community partners to now installed at šxʷƛ̓exən Xwtl’a7shn, the plaza outside Queen Elizabeth Theatre in downtown Vancouver.

City Council approves 20-year plan to revitalize Granville Street

Vancouver City Council to guide the transformation of the historic entertainment district into a safer, welcoming and vibrant destination.

The Granville Street Plan will be implemented through a flexible and adaptable phased approach. Enhanced public safety and community well-being are key to revitalizing the area, and Granville Street Plan considers safety improvements at every step, prioritizing programs that support gender-based violence prevention and overall safety.

City of Vancouver shares tips to beat the heat

With warmer weather in the forecast for Vancouver, the City is through the summer.

Environment Canada will declare a Heat Warning when daytime and overnight temperatures reach for consecutive days. We can expect one to three of [these every] summer.

Vancouver takes action to keep rental and strata housing projects moving in challenging market conditions

Vancouver City Council unanimously and help urgently needed housing projects move forward. These actions respond to rising construction costs, inflation, and high interest rates, which are making it increasingly difficult to build new housing.

This is the first in a series of coordinated efforts to support housing delivery in Vancouver. Upcoming work includes further rezoning process improvements, a review of growth-related funding tools, and continued updates to infrastructure and permitting policies — all aimed at supporting housing delivery while keeping neighbourhoods livable and well-serviced.

New downtown street network now open

Another key milestone has been reached for the Granville Connector project as the new residential street network at the north end of Granville Bridge opens today, creating new downtown connections between Drake and Pacific streets.

Drivers and pedestrians can now access Continental, Rolston and Neon streets from Pacific Street, Drake Street and the Granville Bridge.

Say goodbye to helmet hair! Lime rolls out across downtown

Lime’s . Riders can now travel across the downtown peninsula and conveniently park 525 devices at any of the 98 dedicated parking stations, including 28 new downtown stations, with more on the way as Lime expands operations throughout the summer.

To celebrate the downtown expansion, Lime hosted Canada’s first ever Helmet Hair Salon, highlighting Lime’s commitment to safety while addressing a practical concern in a fun way: helping the one in five bike or scooter riders who say concerns about helmet hair are a reason they skip wearing one.

Summer event season kicks off in Gastown

The summer season is upon us and , festivals and cultural celebrations. From June to September, every Sunday between 10 am and 6 pm, Water Street will become an open-air playground between Richards and Columbia streets.

From live music to art exhibits, markets and more, Gastown will be the place for a casual Sunday wander with friends, lunch in Maple Tree Square, or to entertain little ones. Come enjoy free, family-friendly events and activities in the Pedestrian Zone, programmed in partnership with the Gastown Business Improvement Society (GBIS).

Vancouver property taxes due July 3

Residential and non-residential property owners are reminded that 2025 property tax payments are . 

Property tax payments must be received by July 3 to avoid the 5% penalty.

During Canada Post service disruptions, delivery of property tax notices or utility bills may be late, but payments must still be received by July 3, 2025.

Canada Place closed to general traffic June 30 to July 5

From June 30 to July 5, to general traffic to accommodate events and busy conference activity at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Access via Howe Street will be limited to taxis, buses and hotel guests destined to the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, Pan Pacific Hotel and Canada Place cruise terminal only.
