普段はオンラインでの販売が主ですが、春夏秋冬、年に4回あるOpen House の時は、誰でも、予約なしで無料で入場でき、実際に目で見て手に取って、自分の気に入った蘭を購入できます。また栽培している所も見れますし、何よりもオーナーや経験豊富なスタッフとも直接会話ができます。
オーナーのAndy Phillipは7歳の時に初めて蘭に出会い、『蘭はバラとは異なり、どうして同じ蘭という植物の種類の中で、それぞれ色や形がこんなにも異なるのか？ユニークな見た目の他に、生態系がどうしてこんなにも大きく違うのか？』と疑問に思いました。それから数十年ずっと蘭に対しての情熱、愛情を、(ヲタク精神や子供心も) 絶やさず持ち続けた結果。。。
世界的にも稀に見る特別な場所になっていました。
700,000鉢 7,000種類 以上の蘭を始めとした世界中の植物や花のジャングル。
その中には、日本の蘭はもちろん、数十年の古株の蘭や、環境破壊などにより住処を失い絶滅危機にあるような種類も栽培されています。
Retail shop ではなくWorkIng nursery ですので、狭い温室など、車椅子では難しい所もあります。でもジャングルの奥深くへいかなくても、十分楽しめます。入り口付近にある、樹齢80年以上の枝振りの良い大きなドームの様なsycamore。その周りに沢山あるブース。ジャングル以外にも見所が満載です。
