昭和天皇の皇后である香淳皇后のご生家、久邇宮家には数々の書画が伝えられています。
久邇宮家は明治時代前期に伏見宮邦家親王の第四王子・朝彦親王が創立した宮家で、二代邦彦王は陸軍大将に任官し、香淳皇后は邦彦王の第一王女にあたります。
邦彦王妃の俔子さまは旧薩摩藩主、島津忠義公爵の八女です。
朝彦親王を始め邦彦王や俔子王妃、香淳皇后など久邇宮家の方々は芸術に親しみ、書画を嗜みました。
また島津家に所縁のある芸術品も数多く伝わっています。
皇族の方々はもとより土佐派や四条派の絵師による優雅で温和な絵画などは皇室の趣味をよく表しており、久邇宮家伝来の書画を通して皇室の気品が味わえるものと思います。
