This enchanting classic of children’s literature is reimagined in brilliant musical style by composer Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of Night Mother. Orphaned in India, 11-year-old Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive uncle Archibald and his disabled son Colin. The estate’s many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies and the “Dreamers,” spirits from Mary’s past who guide her through her new life, dramatizing The Secret Garden’s compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal.

Vonda Shepard will hit the stage with her all-star band as she returns to The Smith Center. The performance will feature songs from her new album, Red Light, Green Light, as well as her classic originals, “Maryland,” “Baby, Don’t You Break My Heart Slow,” and many more. They will also play some of the “Ally McBeal” faves, of course! This is an incredibly soulful and dynamic show, featuring James Ralston on guitar (Tina Turner, 22 years!), Jim Hanson on bass (Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen!) and a very special guest, Paul Taylor on drums (currently playing percussion with Crowded House!). Vonda has sold over twelve million albums, has won two Golden Globe Awards, two Emmys and two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and the Billboard Award for selling the most television soundtrack albums in history.

A self-professed “clown in a gown”, Bianca is quick to point out that she is the biggest joke of all.

How can two directly opposing ideas exist together? Chaim Potok’s classic novel intimately explores such complex and thought-provoking questions in a moving adaptation for the stage.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock is a two-act musical based on the hit movie. It follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight–A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school’s headmistress finding out?

Lloyd Webber produced the stage musical on Broadway and in the West End, penning 14 new numbers for the show, which additionally features all of the original songs from the movie. The show is a loving testimony to the transforming power of music.

Founded in 2016, the Third Horizon Film Festival (THFF) is an award-winning festival that has set a standard for showcasing quality and creativity as it presents a platform for Caribbean, diaspora, and underrepresented and marginalizaed global south voices in film. After its hiatus in 2023, the festival's seventh edition will return on April 11, 2024. The 2024 festival lineup has not been announced yet. Stay tuned for updates.
