和田誠(1936-2019)は多摩美術大学卒業後、ライトパブリシティを経て、イラストレーター、グラフィックデザイナーとして広く活躍しました。

本展では、小笠原小夜（イラストレーション）、貝澤幸司（木彫）、貝澤徹（木彫）、川村則子（布アート）、下倉洋之（金工）、関根真紀（デザイン）、楢木貴美子（刺繍）、西田香代子（刺繍）、藤戸康平（ミクストメディア）、藤戸幸夫（木彫）、結城幸司（版画ほか）らの近作、新作によりアイヌアートの今を見つめるとともに、国立アイヌ民族博物館、公益財団法人アイヌ民族文化財団などが所蔵する19世紀から20世紀のアイヌコレクション等を展覧します。また、尾張徳川家と北海道八雲町のかかわりについてもご紹介します。

2023年3月18日から7月9日にかけて、石巻市博物館にて開催された毛利コレクション特集展「小さきモノたちの宇宙」の関連企画である根付の推し選抜投票の結果発表を、旧観慶丸商店2階展示室にて開催します。

The Objects of Addiction Exhibit explores the entwined histories of the opium trade and the Chinese art market between the late 18th and early 20th centuries. On July 14, 1873, a much-anticipated telegram announced that Tacoma had been chosen as the terminus, or end of the railway line, for the Northern Pacific Railroad transcontinental. This exhibition is drawn from the Historical Society’s collection and features original documents, objects, and photographs connected to that event and its impact on Washington State.

The first rotation in this exhibition focuses on portraits created between 1929 and 1992 by Leon Schulman Gaspard, Alfred Leslie, Alice Neel, Winold Reiss, and Andrew Wyeth. Opening July 12, the second rotation keys off Charles Burchfield’s exuberant Clouds and Windblown Hay to look at the fleeting effects of weather in watercolors made between 1950 and 1989 by artists from Washington State,

Across her work in moving image, text, and collage, Sophia Al-Maria addresses the orientalist gaze and residual histories of colonialism in the context of contemporary culture and society. This exhibition brings together for the first time her trilogy of recent films along with collages and sculptural additions weaving throughout the installation, creating a multidimensional context in which to experience Al-Maria’s filmic trilogy.
