5歳からピアノを始め、東京芸大卒業後ドイツへ留学し、ベルリン音楽学校を優秀な成績で卒業した後、
一流の証となるはずのリサイタル直前に風邪をこじらせ、聴力を失うというアクシデントに遭遇することになる。
失意の中、ストックホルムに移住し耳の治療の傍ら、音楽学校の教師の資格を得て、ピアノ教師をしながら欧州各地で演奏していた。
1999年には彼女の軌跡を描いたNHKのドキュメント番組『フジコ〜あるピアニストの軌跡〜』が放映され、大反響を巻き起こす。
同年発売されたCD『奇蹟のカンパネラ』は200万枚以上を超える売り上げとなり、クラシック界異例の大ヒットを記録。
デビュー20周年となる今年は日本国内、ヨーロッパ各地で演奏が行われ、ディズニー・ホールでのリサイタルは7年ぶりとなる。
ショパン「黒鍵のエチュード」「革命のエチュード」、モーツァルト「トルコ行進曲つきソナタ第11番」、リスト「ラ・カンパンネラ」などが披露される。
公演活動で多忙を極めるなか、フジコ・ヘミングさんは猫や犬をはじめ動物愛護への関心も深い。
現在は3.11東日本大震災復興支援チャリティーコンサートおよび被災動物支援チャリティーコンサートといった支援活動を続けている。
本リサイタルの収益金の一部は、東日本大震災後に福島県相馬市に創設され、音楽を通して生きる力を育む事業を営む一般社団法人エル・システマジャパンへ寄付。
当日は会場で限定発売のCDやDVD、絵本として出版されたフジコさん自身の描く絵も販売予定。
