Mayor Eddie’s Newsletter | Cafecito and September 20 Events! | September 5, 2025

Email from City of South San Francisco     View the complete newsletter on the web   Hello, South San Francisco Community! It’s finally warming up in South City, and it’s already September! The year has flown by so quickly, yet there is still so much ahead for all of us to come together and be in community. One of my favorite events coming up is my Cafecito – held at local coffeeshops around the city with local leaders as special guests. I started this as an opportunity to build community, engage in discussion about all things South City, AND enjoy a cup of coffee together. Join my next Cafecito with special guest, Councilmember James Coleman of District 4 at Royal Pin. Come with your thoughts, questions, and ideas, and we look forward to seeing you there! When: Sunday, September 13 | 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Where: Royal Pin Donuts | 551 El Camino Real RSVP: Here or call 650-877-8502   Lighting Sign Hill Tree Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Last week, I had the opportunity to open up a bittersweet event that’s become a South City tradition: the Sign Hill Tree lighting in observance of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and in honor of our beloved resident, Juliana Peña. According to the American Childhood Cancer Organization, it's estimated that 1 in 285 children in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday. It is the number one cause of death by disease among children. These statics are tragic, so until a cure is found, we’re here to light up hope and lift up our community members who need them most. When you look at the tree on Sign Hill this month, please think of Juliana, and consider ways you can help raise awareness to end this disease so that one day, we’ll light this tree because childhood cancer has been overcome.   Save the Date: September 20! September 20 is shaping up to be a busy day, but it’s also a great day to come out with the neighborhood. Start off by helping clean up the Bay with our annual Coastal Cleanup Day then celebrate your hard work with food, music, and drinks at Concert in the Park. Invite your friends and family to have some fun and make an impact on our beautiful city.
