** Highlights from the Nov. 28 Meeting

The East Lansing City Council met on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center (ELHCC) for a special regular meeting.

During communications from the Mayor and Councilmembers, Councilmember Dana Watson welcomed new Michigan State University football coach Jonathan Smith and said that she had attended the East Lansing High School football team's game against Muskegon. East Lansing Mayor George Brookover reminded community members that he can be reached via the two telephone numbers listed for him on the website and that he has an office where people can come see him.

During the City Manager's Report, East Lansing City Manager Robert Belleman congratulated Marie Wicks who has officially been named as the permanent City Clerk. Wicks had been serving in an interim capacity since her return to City employment earlier this year.


** 4.1 Annual Deer Management Presentation

Together, they provided background on the deer management program in the City and information about best practices as well as data from resident surveys, trail cameras and rates of deer-vehicle collisions. Councilmember Mark Meadows moved approval, seconded with a friendly amendment by Mayor Brookover. The motion passed 4-to-1 with Councilmember Erik Altmann voting against the motion. ** 4.2 Approval of Policy Resolution 2023-12

Policy Resolution 2023-12 is an amendment to Clinton County's solid waste management plan related to Granger's desire to expand the landfill. The Clinton County Board of Commissioners has adopted the amendment; for it to take effect, it needs the support of 67% of the county's municipalities. The City of East Lansing's Commission on the Environment has reviewed the request and voted unanimously to recommend Council adopt a resolution approving the amendments to the county plan. Councilmember Meadows moved approval, seconded by Councilmember Altmann. The motion passed 4-to-1 with Mayor Brookover voting against the motion.
