Did you know the city features six golf courses across Columbus? August is National
Golf Month and a great time to check out a city golf course for the first time, or find one
that’s new to you.

These beautifully maintained courses will challenge golfers of all levels – and they are
affordable! Each course offers something a little different. Did you know that Raymond
Memorial Golf Course was the first course in Columbus to welcome Black golfers? The
Wedge Golf Club, a Black golf club, got its start at Raymond Memorial when it opened
in 1954.

Explore Your Olympic Aspirations with the Columbus Albatross Swim Club

Does watching Team USA compete in the Summer Games spark your interest in
becoming an Olympic swimmer? Check out competitive swimming with the Columbus
Albatross Swim Club!

The club recently became an official USA Swim Club, offering a competitive youth swim
program that meets the highest standards set by USA Swimming. All coaches and
programs are fully qualified, ensuring top-tier training. All are welcome, though it’s
recommended that participants are able to safely attend practice with some endurance
(you can comfortably swim at least 300 yards during practice, 500 yards for high
school).

Registration is due by Aug. 7 at noon. Previous summer swim league participants will
receive priority registration, which is due by Aug. 5 at 12:30 p.m.

Get Involved with Columbus Recreation and Parks

It’s the season of butterflies and bees, and you can help protect our pollinators at two upcoming volunteer events.

Join us for a Pollinator Maintenance Event on Aug. 10, from 9 a.m.-noon at O’Shaughnessy
Reservoir. You’ll remove invasive species and performing general maintenance at the pollinator habitat at the reservoir. A few weeks later, sign up to help at Pollinator Field Day on Aug. 24, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Whetstone Park. You’ll remove invasive species and performing general maintenance at the pollinator habitat at the park. After the volunteer event, visit us at the first Columbus ArborFest, presented by Clintonville Greenspot [ https://columbusarborfest.com/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]. And there’s still time to become a conservation steward and be a part of the Pollinator Documentation Program; training is virtual, so you can complete it on your own time.

If being indoors is more to your liking, come help with the opening reception for two new exhibits at the Priscilla R. Tyson Cultural Arts Center on Friday, Aug. 16, from 5:30-8:30.
