◆Symposium Abstract◆
This symposium will feature an interdisciplinary group of artists, curators and scholars to discuss Kazuko Miyamoto's innovative practice over the past 50 years from a variety of perspectives.
Discussions will cover a variety of topics, including feminism in the arts, close reading of specific works, New York ・ avant-garde, and the role of collaboration and community.
The closing ・ panel will reflect on themes and ideas that emerged from the short ・ presentations and will also expand the conversation to include contemporary issues.

Elise ・ Armani （ Lecturer and Panelists ・ Art Historian ） , Roxana ・ Fabias （ Executive Director ・ A.I.R. Gallery ）, Leon ・ Lansmeyer （ exhibition designer, founder of Lansmeyer ）, Barbara ・ Stehle （ curator ・ art historian ）, Kunie Sugiura （ artist ） will be on stage.

◆Exhibition Overview◆
Japan ・ Society （ JS ） Gallery is pleased to present ・ Kazuko Miyamoto （ 1942 ）, an artist born in Japan and working in New York, in her first solo exhibition at an art institution, Kazuko Miyamoto: Challenging Lines.
This exhibition traces the career of Miyamoto, who contributed to the minimalist movement that developed mainly among men, challenging it with her unique method of expression and continuing to open avenues for it.
The exhibition also features Miyamoto's early paintings and drawings from the late 1960s, spatial structures from the 1970s, and milestone works from 1987 to the 2000s, including conceptual experiments in performance and the "Kimono" series. Many of the works will be on view for the first time, providing an important opportunity to examine the career of this talented artist.
