To all sweet potato growers

In Chiba Prefecture, the "Chiba Prefecture Comprehensive Pest Control Plan" was formulated in March 2024 based on the Plant Protection Law. The plan sets forth six rules to be followed by all growers, including those in home gardens, regarding "sweet potato base rot," a disease that has recently become a nationwide problem. We ask for your cooperation in preventing the spread of this disease by observing these rules.

◆Six rules
1 ． Do not collect seed potatoes from the fields where this disease occurs.
2 ． Use disease-free seed potatoes or healthy seedlings of known origin.
3 ． Cooperate with surveys conducted by the prefecture to prevent the spread of the disease.
4 ． When the outbreak of this disease or symptoms suspected to be caused by this disease are confirmed, notify the prefecture and related agencies immediately.
5 ． If an outbreak of this disease is confirmed, remove diseased plants under the guidance of the relevant authorities and take them outside the field for proper disposal.
6 ． In principle, cultivate crops other than sweetpotato or leave the field fallow for at least two years.
