The Yamatake Police Department's Community Safety Division will contact you.
There has been a sharp increase in the number of victims of so-called "fake police scams," in which people call claiming to be police officers and say, "You are suspected of a crime," in order to swindle you out of your money.
The scammer will lead you to a video call on a social networking service, show you a fake police identification card or arrest warrant to make you trust them, and then scam you out of money by saying that he/she will check the money in your account.
Most of the calls from criminals come from international phone numbers ending in "0110," which is the same as police headquarters or police stations, so please do not answer calls from international phone numbers with "+" at the beginning of the number or from unknown numbers.
There have been many cases of damage that could have been prevented if the victims had been aware of the modus operandi.
Attached is the URL of a YouTube video that introduces the tactics and countermeasures, so please watch it before you become a victim.
