View as Webpage January 4, 2023 Reno Connect | Senior Connect Connecting Citizens to our Community   January 2024 Updates The City of Reno extends warm wishes to a joyful New Year! May this year be filled with happiness and good health.   The Reno Seniors EngAGED initiative is a series of engaging events that include resource fairs, informative guest speaker sessions, technology classes, and more for older adults. You’re invited to join the following events in 2024. City of Reno Senior Citizen Advisory Committee (SCAC) Meeting: Join fellow neighbors and friends at the next SCAC meeting. Public information can be found at the City of Reno website. Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 2pm. Located at McKinley Arts and Culture Center, Board Room.(925 Riverside Dr.) Senior Resource Fair: Come and discover a diverse range of services tailored for seniors within the community! Free COVID and Flu shots will be available with insurance in partnership with the Community Health Alliance. Lunch will be provided while supplies last. Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 1pm-3pm. Located at Neil Road Recreation Center, Gym. (3925 Neil Rd.) Joint Senior Board Meeting: Join the City of Reno, City of Sparks Senior Advisory Committee, and Washoe County Senior Board to discuss recommendations for May 2024 Older Americans Month. Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 2pm. Located via Zoom or at the McKinley Arts and Culture Center, Board Room. Free Poetry Workshops for Seniors: Free poetry workshops sponsored by the Senior Citizen Advisory Committee, for seniors to unleash their creativity, discuss poetry and share your thoughts with each other! Second Monday of the Month from 1pm-2pm. First Class is scheduled for February 12, 2024. Washoe County Senior Center, Conference Room (1155 Ninth St) Senior Education: The City welcomes senior residents to an informative presentation which will revolve around fraud prevention, scam awareness, identity theft and related topics. Our speakers will feature representatives from the Better Business Bureau and the Reno Police Department. Lunch will be provided for attendees while supplies last. Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 11am-1pm. Located at the McKinley Arts and Culture Center, Auditorium. (925 Riverside Dr.) Senior Tech Connect Classes are back and have reached full capacity for January. We are thrilled to resume teaching seniors how to effectively use their devices. Upcoming classes include: March 7-8, 2024 from 9am-10:30am located at Neil Road Recreation Center. Classes are two-part series teaching participants basic and advanced skills. If you are interested in the March technology classes, kindly fill out this form. Spanish Technology Classes are open and available to register. Classes take place on February 15 and 16, 2024 from 9am-10:30am located at the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center. If you are interested in the Spanish Technology classes, kindly complete this form. All events are free of charge, and we encourage to invite to your friends!
