Why don't you make Boshu Uchiwa while learning the traditional skills of artisans?
< History of Boshu Uchiwa >
Uchiwa making began in the Kanto region during the Edo period. At that time, Boshu was a source of bamboo for the material. In the Meiji era (1868-1912),
craftsmen were hired in Boshu from Tokyo and began to produce Uchiwa.
After the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, Japanese fan wholesalers from Nihonbashi, which had been hit by a large fire, moved to Boshu, and the production of Boshu Uchiwa expanded
. In 2003, Boshu Uchiwa was recognized as an inherited traditional product by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.
