conservation event
I love our volunteers and our Parks team!
Last weekend, a great group of volunteers visited Morrill Meadows Park to help remove blackberries and other invasive plants.
Morrill Meadows is my favorite park - something for everyone - playground, nature trail, public art, stage, picnic area - all the things!
Thank you, Green Kent Volunteers!

NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways never disappoints! Jason Fiorito and the team at the track do an amazing job.

SUSI
Earlier this week, I was at Riverview Park to welcome young women from the SUSI program hosted by Green River College. The students are visiting from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
The Green River Coalition provided the students with an opportunity to learn about river habitat and restoration.
The Study of the United States Institute (SUSI) Madeleine K. Albright Young Women Leaders Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). ECA’s mission is "to foster mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries to promote friendly and peaceful relations."

resident question
Something new! I'm going to include a weekly question that I have received from a resident and answer it each newsletter. This week I received the following question:
""Hello Dana!"
"Hope you are enjoying your Summer. A neighbor had mentioned something about adopting a street and being responsible to clean it up a few times a year. Can you tell me more about that?""
I would LOVE to!
Our adopt-a-street/spot program is a year-round partnership between the city and neighborhood groups, businesses, and residents to help reduce litter and keep Kent's public spaces clean and beautiful.
With over 320 miles of streets and sidewalks, community partners are needed to pitch in to pick up!
We appreciate the efforts of the community to keep spaces clean in the interest of public health and wellness. *Here's more info if you want to sign up! Don't forget to check out this week's KentNOW podcast!
I pop by with the "Good News Report", and Tracy, Kevin and Kyle talk to Terry Jungman and Kerry O'Conner from our Kent Parks team about Uplands Playfield.
Dylan High from the Greater Kent Historical Society stops by to discuss Experience Kent coming up next month, and there's a little discussion about the 2024 Summer Olympics.
