Sewage Overflow in Medina (Public Health Recommendation Update of 8-26-2024)

Notice to Medina Residents:

Public Health & Safety King County (PHSKC) [ https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/dph ] has reported a sewage spill in the area depicted below. City of Bellevue Water & Sewer employees will be visiting to notify affected residents.

PHSKC recommends:


* Notify the residents of the homes inside the potential area of impact shown with a red semi-circle (radius of 990 feet) in the map below about the incident and warn them against coming in contact with lake water for 7 days (until 9/2/2024 3:45 PM)
* Notify PHSKC as new information (e.g., much greater estimate volume) is obtained or sewage overflow is not contained and more sewage enters the lake or any other surface water/storm system
* During business hours: Email WaterRecreationProgramSewageRelease@kingcounty.gov
* After hours: Call 206-263-7885 _and_ Email WaterRecreationProgramSewageRelease@kingcounty.gov

This recommendation is based on a model with the following assumptions:


* Estimated sewage overflow volume: 3,800 gallons in one day
* Average mixing depth of 33 feet (10 meters)
* Moderate southerly/southwesterly wind for the next 12 hours, shifting to northerly wind afterwards
* High end of E. coli concentration range in raw sewage
* Target E. coli concentration of 100 CFU/100mL
