Reno honors Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month View as Webpage May 2, 2024 Reno Connect | Housing Connecting Citizens to our Community   You're Invited: AANHPI Celebration on Sunday, May 19, 2024 During the month of May, the City of Reno honors Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AANHPI). In collaboration with the Asian Community Development Council, One APIA Nevada, Korean American Association of Reno, India Association of Northern Nevada, the City will hold the Reno AANHPI Heritage Celebration on May 19, 2024, in downtown Reno. Event Details: What: Reno AANHPI Heritage Celebration When: Sunday, May 19, 2024 11:00a.m. — 5:00p.m. Where: Wingfield Park Who: Representatives from City of Reno, Asian Community Development Council, One APIA Nevada, Korean American Association of Reno, India Association of Northern Nevada This is a free event, and all ages are welcome. The celebration will feature AANHPI food trucks, businesses, community resources, and information on the history of Reno’s Chinatown. There will also be performances from different AANHPI heritages including Little Swan Dancers, Traditional Indian Dance, Chroma Harp Team, Korean Dancers, Reno Takio Drummers, and more. “The Northern Nevada AANHPI community contributes immensely to our City,” said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. “While we recognize their contributions this month, our city is culturally enriched everyday thanks to our AANHPI community members.” The U.S. Congress established May as Asian Pacific American Islander Heritage Month in 1992 to highlight the stories of people in the United States who are of Asian or Pacific Islander descent and to honor the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. The month-long celebration honors the heritage and histories of people from the Asian continent and islands across the South Pacific including Hawaii, American Samoa, Federated Islands of Micronesia, Guam, and more.
