NE 45th St Pedestrian Bridge Seismic Project Complete
Construction updates: September 24, 2024
Construction on retrofits to help the NE 45th St Pedestrian Bridge better withstand earthquakes is complete! The *bridge has been reopened* for people, walking, biking and rolling. Over the past 4 months, crews worked on a variety of retrofits to reduce the NE 45th St Pedestrian Bridge’s vulnerability to earthquakes.
We installed carbon fiber wrapping to strengthen the bridge’s beams and superstructure. In addition, we used reinforced concrete to strengthen the bridge’s foundations. We also repaired the shear key that was damaged at the south abutment. See the photos below showing what the bridge looks like after our seismic retrofit!
