[Summary]
We have started an investigation into the relationship between the earthquake that occurred around 16:43 on August 8 and the Nankai Trough earthquake. Those in areas where damage is expected from the Nankai Trough earthquake are advised to take actions to protect themselves according to their individual situations.

An earthquake of magnitude 6 ． 9 （ preliminary report ） occurred at 16:43 on August 8, centered in the Hyuga Sea.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has begun an investigation into the relationship between this earthquake and the Nankai Trough earthquake. For this reason, an evaluation study meeting on earthquakes along the Nankai Trough will be held from 5:30 p.m. on August 8.
Those in areas where damage is expected from a Nankai Trough earthquake are advised to take actions to protect themselves according to their individual situations.

*The Evaluation and Review Committee is working in unison with the existing Evaluation and Review Committee on Areas for Strengthening Earthquake Disaster Prevention Measures, which covers the Tokai region.
