*Kaua‘i Police hosts ‘Heroes and Helpers’ event on Wednesday*

LĪHU‘E —On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) teamed up with the Līhu‘e Target store, the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, and other first responder agencies for this year’s “Heroes and Helpers” event to spread holiday cheer to 69  local children and their families.

This year’s event included first responders from the Kaua‘i Fire Department, Department of Land and Natural Resources, the United States Coast Guard, and the Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau.

The Kaua‘i Police Department worked with partnering agencies, including Child Welfare Services, the YWCA Kaua‘i, and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, to identify needful families with children under seventeen. The children enjoyed a pepperoni and cheese pizza party courtesy of the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center.

They were given a $100 gift card graciously provided by the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center to shop with first responders.

“We are so thankful and excited to participate in a positive experience with our island Keiki and hopeful that our children will develop fond memories and trust with our Kaua‘i police officers and other first responder partners,” said Kaua‘i Police Department Deputy Chief Mark Ozaki. “Mahalo to Target, the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, our first responders, and all our partners and agencies involved.”
