Construction Resumes on Fremont Ave N Water Main Thursday, June 12
Dear Fremont Neighbors,
Construction on Fremont Ave N, between N 34th St and N 35th St, will resume as early as *Thursday, June 12*. This project involves replacing a 100-year-old waterline beneath Fremont Ave N. Completing the water main upgrades and the street upgrades at the same time will help reduce impacts to the community by coordinating major construction projects. This approach helps minimize travel disruptions, lower construction costs, and shortens the overall construction timeline compared to completing the projects separately.
We will post all updated water shutoff information on our website as they are confirmed. We appreciate the community’s patience as we take into consideration crew availability and maintaining business hours for critical community services.
*What to Expect:*
* Trenching along the center of Fremont Ave N between N 34th St and N 35th St
* Lane reductions to one lane of traffic in each direction
* Traffic detours, lane shifts, and occasional full intersection closures
* Noise, dust, and heavy vehicle traffic
* Temporary parking restrictions and short-term driveway closures
* Pedestrian and bicycle detours, along with temporary bus detours and stop relocations
* Temporary utility service impacts and flaggers directing traffic as needed
* Construction hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
* Occasional nighttime and weekend work to minimize traffic disruption
* We encourage residents and commuters to plan ahead and, if possible, consider alternative transportation options to avoid delays
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve the infrastructure in our community. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us at Route40@Seattle.gov

Fremont Construction Information
Construction in Fremont started May 12, 2025 and will continue through 2025. To learn more about what’s happening in the Fremont neighborhood, please visit our webpage [ https://www.seattle.gov/transportation/projects-and-programs/programs/transit-program/transit-plus-multimodal-corridor-program/route-40---transit-plus?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery#materials ] and check out the construction area [ https://www.seattle.gov/documents/Departments/SDOT/TransitProgram/Route%2040%20TPMC/Route_40_Fremont_Construction_Plans_Webapge.pdf?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] and construction activities [ https://www.seattle.gov/documents/Departments/SDOT/TransitProgram/Route%2040%20TPMC/Construction_Scope_Definitions_Route%2040.pdf?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].
*Water Main Infrastructure Upgrades*
We're working with Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) to replace a 100-year-old waterline under Fremont Ave N between N 34th St and N 35th St and inserting a new valve at Dayton Ave N and N 36th St. Completing the water main upgrades and the street upgrades at the same time will help reduce impacts to the community by coordinating major construction projects. This approach helps minimize travel disruptions, lower construction costs, and shorten the overall construction timeline compared to completing the projects separately.
When complete, the watermain upgrades are expected to:
* Improve capacity to deliver drinking water in your neighborhood
* Improve water system flow and pressure
* Ensure water service reliability and reduce disruptions by creating more backups in the system
*What to Expect During a Water Shut off:*
Water service impacts will vary based on construction progress and the location of infrastructure upgrades. Specific buildings in Fremont will experience disruptions at different times throughout the project and for varying durations as we complete these essential improvements.
You can learn how best to prepare for water main work by visiting SPU's webpage [ https://www.seattle.gov/utilities/neighborhood-projects/water-outages/planning-for-outages?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] for tips on preparing for a water outage.
