Upcoming deadline: CTR Tax Credit applications close January 31  

Applications for the Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) Tax Credit will be open from January 1 to January 31. Employers and property managers who provided transit benefits in 2024 may be eligible for up to $60 per person in tax credits against their business and occupation (B&O) tax or public utility tax (PUT) liability. Employers and property managers must have paid for a portion of the transit benefit (pre-tax contributions are not eligible). Remembering Shawn Yim  



On January 10, King County Metro, community members, riders and transit agencies throughout the region gathered to celebrate and remember Transit Operator Shawn Yim, who was killed in the line of duty on December 18. A procession of more than 100 buses and transit vehicles stretched nearly a mile in downtown Seattle in tribute to Yim prior to the memorial. In addition to Metro and other Puget Sound agencies, some came from as far away as British Columbia, Grays Harbor County, Portland, Spokane, Skagit and Whatcom counties. King County Metro to resume fare inspection in March 2025

Starting March 31, 2025, Metro fare inspectors will ask riders for proof of fare payment. Friendly, verbal reminders will be given to riders who did not pay. Fare inspection will fully resume starting on May 31, 2025.

To prevent any inspection warnings, all riders must tap their ORCA card, including riders whose employers fully subsidize their transit trips. We even encourage youth to tap their ORCA card, even though they can ride free. King County Metro seeks feedback on RapidRide K Line plans



King County Metro is working to bring the new RapidRide K Line to the Eastside. Planned to launch as soon as 2030, the 16-mile RapidRide K Line service will connect communities between Totem Lake, downtown Kirkland, downtown Bellevue and the Eastgate Park-and-Ride.

Metro is collecting public feedback on recommended projects to improve bus speed, reliability, pedestrian and bicycle access on the future RapidRide K Line. Sound Transit approves ST Express fare change

The Sound Transit Board has approved changing the current ST Express bus fare, reducing the full adult fare from $3.25 to $3. This change aligns the ST Express bus fare with the Link flat fare. The new fare will take effect on March 1, 2025. The new adult fare rate does not change fares for seniors, riders with disabilities, youth, and ORCA LIFT passengers on ST Express routes.
