Additional Comments:
The County of Maui closed Baldwin Beach Park and Ho‘okipa Beach Park today, Dec. 21, 2024, due to potential safety impacts from an extra-large, north-northwest swell advisory by the National Weather Service.
A high-surf warning was issued Tuesday by the National Weather Service, forecasting surf of 30 to 40 feet and building to 40 to 50 feet along north-facing shores, with possible safety impacts that include ocean water surging and sweeping across beaches and periodically overtopping vulnerable coastal roadways.
The public is advised to stay away from the shoreline along affected coasts and to take precautionary measures.
Gates to the two beach parks will remain locked while the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation and Maui Emergency Management Agency closely monitor impacts from the high surf throughout the next few days.
Updates will be available at www.mauicounty.gov/mema and on the County of Maui Facebook and Instagram pages. For the latest forecast information b
