Ichinose-yaki has a 400-year history and flourished as the official kiln of the Kurume-Arima clan.
Ichinose-yaki pottery flourished as the official kiln of the Kurume-Arima clan and has a 400-year history. The Marudagama kiln, which carries on this tradition, continues to produce unique ceramics using the "salt glaze" technique, which is rare in Japan and uses salt instead of glaze. Here, visitors can enjoy pottery making by hand, painting, and using an electric potter's wheel. Participants are free to choose what they want to make, such as mugs and tea cups, during the hand-binnere experience. After kneading the clay and shaping it into a vessel, the pattern is added using wooden or silicon ceramic stamps. After that, they choose their favorite color from a selection of eight glazes and leave it up to the potter. The finished pieces will be delivered to you about one to two months after the experience.
