Simple Kintsugi Workshop in San Diego （ Day Session ）

This is the second time in San Diego ！ This will be the last one before the end of the year.
Why don't you revive your favorite broken or chipped vessels with a beautiful simple Kintsugi process ？
No need to worry about hand rash as we will use modern techniques using putty and synthetic resin.

① 1 bowl （ You can choose at the venue on the day. Black or white bowl or plate ） ： You can bring your own. If you bring your own, we recommend that it be broken into no more than 5 pieces. If you would like more than 6 pieces, we would be happy to discuss this with you. Maximum 6 inches （ 15cm ） max.

② Complete kintsugi kit → We will provide putty, glue and other necessary items

③ 1 drink included Please choose from the cafe menu.

What is Kintsugi◾️◾️

It is a restoration technique in which broken, chipped or cracked parts of a vessel are glued with lacquer and decorated with gold or other materials to finish.
In Japanese history, earthenware with cracks repaired with lacquer has been found since the Jomon period.
This technique is derived from the spirit of the tea ceremony, which is to accept repaired vessels as they are.
Today, it is becoming popular among people to restore their favorite vessels and use them for a long time, or to enjoy the process and marks of kintsugi as art.



◾️This workshop aims to provide a casual experience of kintsugi (metal-joining) ？

・. This workshop aims to provide you with a casual experience of Kintsugi (metal-joining). This time, we will use "Synthetic Urushi" which is relatively easy to handle. It dries easily and does not cause rashes, so it is an easy 3-hour experience. Please note that the materials used differ from natural lacquer and pure gold.
・ Since glue is used to repair cracks, we ask that you refrain from using it in such a way that food can touch the kintsugi part or your mouth can touch it. It can be used for things to keep dry things, such as a small container or an individually wrapped candy box. Kintsugi wares cannot be used in microwave ovens or dishwashers.
・ Please refrain from using earthenware pots and other vessels used over an open flame.



◾What to prepare on the day◾️

① If you have broken or chipped vessels you wish to kintsugi （ 1 piece ） *
*We recommend up to five pieces because fine cracks take longer.
② Newspaper or cushioning material to protect the vessel. The final step of the kintsugi process is to dry the vessels, but it may not be possible to dry them in time. We recommend that you prepare a cardboard box to take your vessels home in.
③ Wear clothes that you can work in (even if you color)
