We recently announced that our Long Beach Utilities Department restored billing and payment processing services for City utility accounts. Our work to help people experiencing homelessness continues. Network Security Incident Updates Following the network security incident targeting the City of Long Beach that occurred on Nov. 14, 2023, the City has been diligently managing several streams of critical work. Nearly all systems and operations are up and running and the investigation continues. The City understands the importance of transparency and is committed to providing regular updates on progress, to the extent possible. Click here Long Beach Restores Utilities Billing and Payment Services The City of Long Beach has restored billing and payment processing services for City utility accounts, which were taken offline on Nov. 15, 2023, out of an abundance of caution after the City learned of a network security incident targeting the City. City-serviced utility customers can once again pay their bill online, over the phone, in person or by mail. Click here Long Beach Pledge Guaranteed Income Pilot Program to Expand with Second Cohort In January, the City of Long Beach will open applications to expand our guaranteed income pilot program, known as the Long Beach Pledge, to include a second cohort of 200 additionally funded households. This expansion will be available to households with children living under the federal poverty level in five Long Beach zip codes. Those selected for the Long Beach Pledge will receive $500 a month for 12 months. Click here Long Beach Launches ‘Season of Giving’ Donation Series to Support People Experiencing Homelessness During the Fall and Winter Seasons We have launched our Season of Giving donation series to encourage the local community to make someone’s holiday season bright by volunteering their time or contributing physical or monetary donations to support people experiencing homelessness in Long Beach. Donations received during Season of Giving will help support the City’s ongoing efforts in providing critical, everyday essentials for people experiencing homelessness. Items will be distributed throughout the holiday and winter seasons. Click here City of Long Beach Seeks Partnerships with Community Organizations to Serve Residents Experiencing Homelessness The City of Long Beach is seeking partnerships with community organizations and local companies that are interested in collaborating with the City in our homelessness emergency response and assist in serving residents experiencing homelessness. Learn more Participate in Long Beach's Donation Drive to Support People Experiencing Homelessness We are still hosting our donation drive to collect a variety of essential physical items to provide to community members experiencing homelessness. We encourage everyone who is able to join the effort by donating needed items. Read more City Continues to Accept Applications for Visual Improvement Program Grant The application for the Visual Improvement Program (VIP) Grant is still available! This will support local businesses impacted by crime and vandalism on or after October 1, 2022. Eligible businesses can receive $1,500 to cover storefront repairs, boarding costs, insurance deductibles and business operating expenses. Watch now Protect Your Family and Yourself From Getting Sick This Winter A yearly flu vaccine is the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses. Everyone six months and older should get an annual flu vaccine. Click here to view our flu vaccine clinics. At this time, the Health Department also offers free COVID-19 vaccines to individuals 19 and older without health insurance or who are underinsured at various locations in Long Beach through the CDC's Bridge Access Program. Long Beach Health Department Awarded Grant to Expand Drug-impaired Driving Prevention Program The Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services was awarded a $285,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to educate the community about responsible cannabis use and reduce drug-impaired driving related collisions. Click here Long Beach Health Department Awarded Grant to Expand Distracted Driving Prevention Program The Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services was awarded a $215,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to reduce distracted driving related collisions. Click here Long Beach to Offer Free Winter Fun Days Program for Youth During Winter School Break Our Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will offer free extended supervised recreation programs for youth over the winter school break from Dec. 26 through 29, 2023, and Jan. 2 through 5, 2024. Youth may come and go at their own discretion and PRM staff will be on-site to lead a variety of recreational activities from noon to 5 p.m. at parks throughout Long Beach. Available for those ages 5 through 12, youth can enjoy free games, crafts, sports tournaments, field trips and holiday celebrations. Click here Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Winter Class Registration Now Open! Classes including art, music, fitness and sports will be offered from December 2023 through February 2024. The classes provide opportunities for exercise and recreation, social interaction, learning and relaxation for every age from preschool-aged children to adults. Register today! Click here City of Long Beach to Conduct Bikeway Improvements on Alamitos Avenue The City of Long Beach’s contractor began construction along Alamitos Avenue in the downtown area during the week of Dec. 4, 2023, with an estimated completion date, barring weather or other unforeseen delays, by early January 2024. Long Beach’s Daisy Lane Parade and Night of Holiday Entertainment Returns This December The City of Long Beach and the Office of Seventh District Councilmember Roberto Uranga proudly present the 2023 Daisy Lane Parade, taking place on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, and night of holiday entertainment on Sunday, Dec. 10. The festive parade will begin at 5 p.m. on Daisy Avenue at West Burnett Street and travel south, down the eastside of Daisy Avenue to Pacific Coast Highway where it will make its way around the median and back up the westside of Daisy Avenue and conclude near West Hill Street and Maine Avenue around 7 p.m. Learn more Celebrate the New Year at The Queen Mary!
