Description

The Ainu Handicrafts Exhibition has been held by the Ainu Folk Culture Foundation since 1997 at art galleries and museums nationwide to promote Ainu culture and research. In addition to introducing outstanding Ainu collections from Japan and abroad, the exhibition has featured the activities of artists who are currently active in the field.
FY2023 ） will focus on Moleu （ whirl patterns, one of the characteristics of Ainu patterns, and Oshikarihekompa ） in Karafuto, with an overview of wood carvings and clothing left by our ancestors, along with contemporary Ainu art, to highlight the diversity and The exhibition will focus on the rich diversity and design of Ainu art, as well as on the richness of its formative qualities. In addition to discovering the new in the old, visitors will find that tradition lives on in the works of contemporary artists.
This exhibition features works by Saya Ogasawara （ illustration ）, Koji Kaizawa （ wood sculpture ）, Toru Kaizawa （ wood sculpture ）, Noriko Kawamura （ fabric art ）, Hiroyuki Shimokura （ metal art ）, Maki Sekine design ）, Kimiko Naraki （ embroidery ）, Kayoko Nishida （ embroidery ）, Kohei Fujito （ mixed media ）, Yukio Fujito （ wood carving ）, Koji Yuki （ prints and others ） In addition, we will exhibit the 19th and 20th century Ainu collections held by the National Museum of the Ainu People and the Ainu National Culture Foundation. The exhibition also introduces the relationship between the Owari Tokugawa family and the town of Yakumo in Hokkaido.
