Coinciding with Asia Week New York 2023, the Japan Gallery will host an exhibition of Japanese arts and crafts by Orientations ・ Gallery and Oriental ・ Treasure ・ Box. Admission is free.
Coinciding with Asia Week New York 2023, the Japan Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of Japanese arts and crafts by Orientations ・ Gallery and Oriental ・ Treasures ・ Box. This collaborative exhibition is the longest running exhibition of its kind at Asia Week, and this year marks the 11th anniversary of its 10th year.
The exhibition will feature high quality works by renowned artists in the fields of cloisonne, metalwork, ceramics, lacquerware, painting, bamboo craft, sculpture, and dyeing and weaving. A wide range of modern and contemporary crafts will be presented, mainly by Imperial Household Artists and Living National Treasures, who have elaborated their skills and techniques.
This year's exhibition will focus on artwork with a "commemorative" concept, with many objects depicting special celebratory events and ceremonial occasions. We will also feature artists who won awards at international and world expositions in the Meiji ・ Taisho ・ Showa period. Works related to rituals such as incense and tea ceremonies will also be on display.
In order to allow visitors to appreciate the "beauty of Japan" created by the supreme modern and contemporary craftsmen in a limited space, we have selected the finest arts and crafts works from the vast collection of Orientations ・ Gallery and Oriental ・ Treasure Box.
