As for transportation between Tokyo and Shikoku, there are train, express overnight bus, and airplane except for rental cars which you drive yourself.

When I first went to Shikoku, I took an express overnight bus to save a night in a hotel. However, buses are like planes on the Pacific line, and although there are bathroom stops along the way, you cannot sleep well for long periods of time because you are sitting in your seat all night, and it is very hard when you start walking the next morning. Fares start at around 9,000 yen.

Next is the train. Even if you take the fastest Shinkansen or limited express train from Tokyo Station to Tokushima Station, it will take about 5.5 hours with one or two transfers and cost about 18,500 yen.

There used to be a "night train" that used to take 50,000 ━? \However, there is only one regular service left now, the Sunrise Seto ・ Izumo, owned by JR West. The Sunrise Seto ・ Izumo is detached from the train at Okayama Station and one of the trains goes to Takamatsu Station in Kagawa Prefecture, while the other goes to Izumo City Station in Shimane Prefecture. We had to make a reservation 75 days in advance. We know our itinerary to and from Japan well in advance, so the date of our trip to Shikoku is naturally fixed. So we can make plans two and a half months in advance. So I have been flying to and from Shikoku every year since the year after my first overnight bus trip. The flight time is 45 ～ 50 minutes, but the air trip is quite long before and after the flight. However, I do not feel tired from the flight at all. This is the biggest advantage compared to other means of transportation.
