thank people for taking the time to give advice （ whether it's appropriate or not ）.

Or, people who think it doesn't matter because they don't even see the other person's face on the forum are worse.

No, it's not. I have exchanged many times and asked many questions.
I wouldn't ask a lot of questions if the information wasn't valid.
But I never heard from them again without thanking them.
I guess they don't need the information once they have it. I can tell if it's an assumption. Well, in my case. Before anyone else gets stuck, this is just an example. Then, I ask questions too, but I always reply politely. Even if it's not appropriate advice, even if it's a nasty message.

Mr. Assumption, you seem to be of the mindset that if you get a message that is not appropriate, you don't have to reply. Taking the time to send a message is a kind gesture.
As Hon, it's great that you reply politely
even if the message is not appropriate advice, even if it is mean-spirited.
A one word "thank you" reply doesn't take more than a minute.
