Mayor Olivia Chow to raise the Black Liberation Flag in honour of Emancipation Month
Mayor Olivia Chow will proclaim August as Emancipation Month in Toronto and raise the Black Liberation Flag tomorrow at Toronto City Hall. She will be joined by Councillor Chris Moise (Toronto-Centre), Chair of the City’s Confronting Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee, and members of Toronto’s Black arts and culture community.
Date: Thursday, August 1
Time: Noon to 12:45 p.m.
Location: Toronto City Hall, Podium Roof,100 Queen St. W.
The flag raising ceremony will include performances by drummer Njau and saxophonist Jay Smooth, an Afro-Indigenous welcome from Kayla Webber, libation from Elder Ginelle Skerritt and remarks from Dr. Itah Sadu of the Blackhurst Cultural Centre.
