Paw-Fest Weekend!
________________________________________________________________________
Paw Fest
Happy Friday, Kent!
I hope you will join us and Regional Animal Services of King County at Kent Station for Paw-Fest tomorrow! Over twenty animal rescues will have dogs and cats up for adoption and there will be licensing help on-site.
There will be a pet costume contest, pup cups, and demonstrations from dog trainers.
Hope you enjoy this week's update and have a great weekend!
Dana Ralph, Kent Mayor

adam smith
I want to thank Rep. Adam Smith for his commitment to Kent and advocating for the safety of our residents.
Congressman Smith has requested funding from the House Appropriations Committee that will enhance public safety in our community.
We are grateful for the Congressman’s support and ongoing interest in our city!
________________________________________________________________________
It was an honor to speak alongside Sen. Maria Cantwell, Maple Valley Mayor Sean Kelly, and Gold Star Wife Arlene Murray-Adams Monday at the Memorial Day ceremony at Tahoma National Cemetery.
While words are not enough, we must thank our soldiers who put our lives and freedom above their own.
To those we have lost, my deepest, unending gratitude and a promise to never forget what you gave up so my family can live in a free country.
To those left behind, family and friends, you are my heroes. As you move through the world without your father, mother, brother, sister, wife, husband and friend, I am so very sorry and so very grateful. Your sacrifice, your selflessness, is not lost nor will it go unspoken or unappreciated. Thank you.

parkside
When we held the grand opening of Salt Air Vista Park, 2nd and 3rd graders from Parkside Elementary joined us to cut the ribbon. They also invited me to Hero Day, which was today!
This is a long standing tradition at Parkside Elementary where they invite families, community members and First Responders to school for lunch and activities.
What a fun day! I had the chance to visit with 2nd graders and 5th graders. They asked fantastic question! Visiting with students is one of the best parts of my job ??
There was a tribute to our very own Officer Moreno - one of his form students remembers Diego and his service every year at Hero Day - such a special tribute

Van Doren's Landing Park
Last week, staff from our Kent Parks team attended the 2024 Washington Recreation & Park Association (WRPA) Conference and accepted an award with staff from our Public Works team for the incredible renovations we completed at Van Doren’s Landing Park last year!
The WRPA Spotlight Award for Outdoor Spaces is awarded to agencies for outstanding achievements in parks and recreation.
I am so proud of the Van Doren’s Landing Park project; it was a successful, multi-jurisdictional effort that addressed the recreational needs of the Kent community, provides new habitat for fish and wildlife, improves flood protection for the Kent Valley, and celebrates the rich history of Kent and the local Muckleshoot Indian Tribe.
